We warm people, not the planet

We minimise causing unnecessary harm to our planet while maximising warmth for our customers. To do so, we focus on reducing emissions and water usage, as well as implementing inclusive working conditions in our community. At Stoov we aim to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Payback period

When you dial down your heating and switch on your Stoov, you're not just staying warm, you're also cutting emissions. This action helps offset the emissions generated during the manufacturing, transportation, and charging of your product throughout its lifespan, (which by the way, spans at least 5 years!) On average, the emissions avoided surpass the initial emissions after just 1 year and 8 months.

Materiality issues

For Stoov, the top 5 impactful areas are: safe & fair working conditions, product quality & safety, recycled & certified materials, product design & development, and circularity. These are termed materiality issues. We prioritize these in our strategy and goals.

rPET

We've switched to using rPET, a recycled material, for both the interiors of our products and the majority of our covers. This move allows us to save energy and resources per product:
* 34.2 litres of water
* 0.7 kWh of energy
* 2.6 KG of plastic

Heating lowered by 2 degrees

According to a survey conducted among our customers, the average thermostat reduction when using a Stoov is 2 degrees. This demonstrates the efficiency of Stoov in smart heating and energy conservation.

Eight SDG's

The United Nations' "sustainable development goals" serve as a well-recognized framework for a more equitable future. Our impact strategy directly and indirectly contributes to 8 out of the 17 goals.

Energy-efficient technology

Did you know that it takes four times more energy to boil water using a kettle than to charge our Homey electric hot water bottle? This makes our Homey four times more efficient than a traditional hot water bottle. Moreover, our products solely warm you without affecting the surrounding space.

Clever transport & packaging

We strive to optimize our logistics operations. For instance, we've transitioned to coiled inner pillows, reducing our average parcel size by 8.5%. Additionally, we minimize plastic usage in our product packaging and encourage customers to make informed choices during ordering to decrease emissions from shipments and returns.

We plant trees!

At Stoov, we are committed to offsetting our emissions, and we do this in collaboration with ForestNation. We plant trees and conserve biodiversity in Tanzania, which promotes a greener environment and provides employment opportunities for the local community.

For every ton of CO2 emitted during our logistics process, we plant 10 trees. In a tree's lifetime it is estimated to absorb 1 ton of CO2 and so we plant 10 in order to help offset as much of our carbon emissions as possible.

A word from our founder Teun

"When I started Stoov in 2014, the 2 founding principles were saving energy by warming people more efficiently and creating a product with the smallest possible footprint"

Today, I am still inspired by the saying which my mum repeatedly mentioned to me during my childhood: “deuren dicht: we stoken niet voor de vogeltjes”. This means that you should close the door behind you to keep the house warm, instead of warming the birds outside. This message has always been the essence of Stoov: we strive for more efficient heating. After all, we warm people, not the planet.

B Corp

As of January 2023 we are officially a B Corp, yay! Sustainability is at the heart of what we do and is woven into Stoov's DNA. Our new B Corp status is both a celebration of our commitment to the planet and a reminder to always strive to do better to improve the way in which our business is making an impact.
